⇒TEA-GOWN, subst. masc. ou fém.
Vieilli. Robe d'intérieur pour les femmes, faite généralement dans un drapé souple à la fois confortable et élégant. Elle était vêtue d'une robe faite pour la chambre — une espèce de tea-gown de souple soie mauve (P. BOURGET, Fémina, 1904, p. 471 ds BONN. 1920). Les petites mules frémissent, les plis du tea-gown semblent se soulever, la petite main baguée de saphirs s'agite (BLANCHE, Modèles, 1928, p. 57).
Prononc.:[tigawn], [-go:n]. MART. Comment prononce 1913, p. 343, a observé une prononc. [-gun], avec la valeur de la graph. ds clown. Étymol. et Hist. 1893 (Monit. de la Mode, p. 164, c. 3 ds BONN., p. 152). Empr. à l'angl. tea-gown att. dep. 1878 (NED, s.v. tea) et comp. de gown « robe » issu de l'anglo-norm. gun, goun (L. W. STONE, W. ROTHWELL et T. B. W. REID, Anglo-Norman Dictionary) corresp. à l'a. fr. gone « robe » (v. gone étymol. et hist. A) et de tea, de même orig. que le fr. thé.
